People can’t forget Harry Reid bragging to the press that “the war is lost.” It was a despicable, anti-American thing to say. He said it repeatedly. He said it without hesitation or regret. Frankly, America is worse off having Harry Reid still in office.
They’re worse off because he’s a despicable, discusting human being who won’t hesitate in doing a hatchet job without the slightest bit of proof.
His latest disgusting act was accusing Mitt Romney of not paying his taxes for an entire decade. He said that he’d heard that from an anonymous Democrat who invested with Bain:
Reid suggested that Romney’s decision to withhold tax information would bar him from ever earning Senate confirmation to a Cabinet post. Then, Reid recalled a phone call his office received about a month ago from “a person who had invested with Bain Capital,” according to The Huffington Post.
Reid said the person told him: “Harry, he didn’t pay any taxes for 10 years.”
“He didn’t pay taxes for 10 years! Now, do I know that that’s true? Well, I’m not certain,” Reid told HuffPo. “But obviously he can’t release those tax returns. How would it look?”
First, it’s doubtful that this confidential informant exists. If the dirtbag exists, however, then he’s a gutless wimp for not coming forward and making the accusations in public.
Whether the disgusting dirtbag exists or not, Sen. Reid shouldn’t make those unsubstantiated allegations public because it’s impossible, short of hacking into the IRS website, to verify the voracity of these allegations.
What’s disgusting is that President Obama’s campaign hasn’t criticized Sen. Reid for making these unsubstantiated (and unsubstantiatable) allegations. Their silence implies that they approve of Sen. Reid’s accusations. Their silence in this situation should earn them nothing but unlimited derision and criticism.
I don’t want Sen. Reid to apologize. I want Republican senators to make his life a living hell before running him out of the Senate. I want Republicans to torment him, call him out for what he is: a dirtbag who won’t hesitate to make unsubstantiated allegations.
The other thing that I’d recommend them to do is use Sen. Reid’s disgusting outburst to raise money to defeat as many Democrats as possible this fall. The best punishment for Sen. Reid short of running him out of the Senate is to turn him into the Minority Leader.
It’s time for Republicans to take the gloves off. If they continue acting like gentlemen and ladies, Sen. Reid, Sen. Durbin, Sen. Schumer and other notorious hatchetmen won’t have an incentive to stop being hatchetmen.
Let’s hope the GOP grows a spine ASAP. Let’s hope they carry out a ruthless vendetta against this dirtbag from Nevada.
Finally, here’s my (rhetorical) question to Harry Reid: Sir, have you no shame?
Unfortunately, we know the answer to that question is no, he doesn’t have any remorse or shame.

At one point, a college degree wasn’t just important; it was essential. As more people attempted get a degree, colleges started raising tuitions. At the same time, politicians increased funding for Pell Grants while increasing other government subsidies for college educations.
When colleges learned that they could raise tuitions without fear of financial reprisal, they accelerated their tuition increases. Universities knew that state and federal politicians would, in essence, bail them out with more higher ed funding at the state level and more grants from the federal level.
That bubble is about to burst. Reading this USA Today article confirms that theory:
Universities and colleges are giving $5.3 billion in aid this year to students who the federal government says don’t need financial help, according to figures from the College Board.
An additional $4 billion in federal tuition tax credits went to families making $100,000 to $180,000, at least double the median income for U.S. households.
The schools use the money, more than 20% of all U.S. financial aid, to compete for applicants who have high grade-point averages and SAT scores. Some discounts serve another purpose: They lure high-income families that can write a check for the rest of the tuition.
The federal government shouldn’t be in the business of giving lucrative tax breaks on college tuitions to those that don’t need the help. For that matter, all tax subsidies should be eliminated as long as they’re coupled with lower tax rates.
Spending money we don’t have on things we don’t need is stupid. That habit must end ASAP. The other downside to this is that it just keeps the tuition increase cycle intact. At some point, we have to say stop!!! It’s time to get tuition back at a sane rate.
That day is coming. If college tuitions at brick-and-mortar universities don’t respond, rest assured that online, for-profit universities will respond to the opportunity by offering lower tuitions and a learn-on-your-timetable model.
Think of how many students would love attending a university that won’t require them to pile up massive amounts of student loan debt. Think of how many parents would love seeing these students get a great education that leads to great paying private sector jobs when they graduate.
Nature isn’t the only thing that abhors a vacuum. Markets hate them, too. If a businessman sees an opportunity to exploit, he’ll absolutely jump at that opportunity.
Don’t be surprised, either, if bigger shares of students don’t start migrating from the brick-and-mortar campuses to privately owned, for-profit universities. In fact, I’d predict that that’s the predictable outcome of this fight.
These privately owned, for profit universities will have another advantage over brick-and-mortar universities. They won’t burden their students with politically correct victimology indoctrination requisites like their brick-and-mortar brethren ‘feature’.
Lest anyone think that this transformation is a generation away, think of how many students and parents would find a low-cost alternative to high-priced PC universities attractive. Once a viable option is presented on a large enough scale, the transition will happen quickly.
Brick-and-mortar universities will always exist. That said, they’re living fossils that will soon be outdated.

In the 60’s, Democrats were the party of main street and neighborhoods. Fifty years later, that Democratic Party doesn’t exist, having been replaced by a new PTA. The people that make up today’s Democratic Party are progressives, thugs and anarchists.
Hardline progressives have controlled the Democratic Party since 2005. That’s when a) the nation’s policies took a hard left turn and b) the economy took a dramatic nosedive.
The last time the GOP controlled the White House, the Senate and the House of Representatives, that year’s unemployment rate was 4.6% and the deficit was $161,000,000,000.
Thanks to the Democrat’s hardline policies, unemployment has stayed above 9% and the last 3 deficits averaged $1,300,000,000,000 annually. In short, unemployment has doubled and stayed there and the deficit is 800% bigger than it was in 2006.
Another ‘member’ of the Democrats’ new coalition are union thugs. It isn’t that unions’ associations with the Democratic Party is something new. It’s that the unions now associated with the Democratic Party are outright thugs and criminals.
These unionistas didn’t hesitate in invading private property to threaten children. SEIU thugs beat up a conservative black man a) for selling flags outside a townhall meeting and b) because he’s conservative.
Another major piece of the new Democratic Party puzzle are anarchists like David Graeber. Here’s a brief bio on Mr. Graeber:
Graeber is a 50-year-old anthropologist—among the brightest, some argue, of his generation—who made his name with innovative theories on exchange and value, exploring phenomena such as Iroquois wampum and the Kwakiutl potlatch. An American, he teaches at Goldsmiths, University of London. He’s also an anarchist and radical organizer, a veteran of many of the major left-wing demonstrations of the past decade: Quebec City and Genoa, the Republican National Convention protests in Philadelphia and New York, the World Economic Forum in New York in 2002, the London tuition protests earlier this year. This summer, Graeber was a key member of a small band of activists who quietly planned, then noisily carried out, the occupation of Lower Manhattan’s Zuccotti Park, providing the focal point for what has grown into an amorphous global movement known as Occupy Wall Street.
That’s a brief Businessweek bio of Mr. Graeber. Here’s what he did this summer:
Graeber began the summer on sabbatical, moving back to New York from London and frequenting an artists’ space called 16Beaver. It was an intellectual activist salon, located near Wall Street, the sort of place where people would discuss topics like semiotics and hacking and the struggles of indigenous peoples. Like many other American activists, Graeber had been deeply moved by the occupation of Cairo’s Tahrir Square and by the “Indignados” who had taken over central Madrid; in mid-July, he published a short piece in Adbusters asking what it would take to trigger a similar uprising in the West. For much of the summer, the discussions at 16Beaver revolved around exactly that question. When a local group called Operation Empire State Rebellion called for a June 14 occupation of Zuccotti Park, four people showed up.
On July 13, Adbusters put out its own call for a Wall Street occupation, to take place two months later, on Sept. 17. Setting the date and publicizing it was the extent of the magazine’s involvement. A group called New Yorkers Against Budget Cuts—student activists and community leaders from some of the city’s poorer neighborhoods—stepped in to execute the rest. For three weeks in June and July, to protest city budget cuts and layoffs, the group had camped out across the street from City Hall in a tent city they called Bloombergville. They liked the idea of trying a similar approach on Wall Street. After talking to Adbusters, the group began advertising a “People’s General Assembly” to “Oppose Cutbacks And Austerity Of Any Kind” and plan the Sept. 17 occupation.

These hardline progressives, union thugs and anarchists are the face of today’s Democratic Party. Democratic leaders like President Obama and Nancy Pelosi are the most prominent Democrats to have praised the OWS anarchists.
I used to be Democrat when I was young. I knew alot of Democrats back then. I especially admired Hubert Humphrey, Scoop Jackson and Daniel Patrick Moynihan. These were principled patriots.
That Democratic Party is gone, replaced with pathetic professional protestors, pigheaded progressives and aggressive anarchists.
The Democratic Party I knew and supported, I’m afraid, is gone forever. What a shame.

California’s finances have been a terrible mess seemingly forever. The legislature, combined with Gray Davis and Ahnold, have driven the state into the ground. People are leaving the state with increasing frequency.
If sanity doesn’t ensue immediately, California’s economy will totally crater. During its best days, California wasn’t known for its sanity. Today, the sanity quotient is at an alltime low. Few people have high expectations for California’s economy.
That’s why this article, despite being filled with bad news, offers a glimmer of hope:
Sacramento is Government Central, a land of overly pensioned bureaucrats and restaurant discounts for state workers. But way up in the North State, one finds a small but hard-edged rural populace that views state and federal officials as the main obstacles to their quality of life.
Their latest battle is to stop destruction of four hydroelectric dams along the Klamath River, an action driven by environmentalists and the Obama administration. Most locals say the dam-busting will undermine their property rights and ruin the local farming and ranch economy, which is all that’s left since environmental regulators destroyed the logging and mining industries.
These used to be wealthy resource-based economies, but now many of the towns are drying up, with revenue to local governments evaporating. Unemployment rates are in the 20-percent-and-higher range. Nearly 79 percent of the county’s voters in a recent advisory initiative opposed the dam removal, but that isn’t stopping the authorities from blasting the dams anyway.
These rural folks, living in the shadow of the majestic Mount Shasta, believe that they are being driven away so that their communities can essentially go back to the wild, to conform to a modern environmentalist ethos that puts wildlands above humanity. As the locals told it during the Defend Rural America conference Oct. 22 at the Siskiyou Golden Fairgrounds, environmental officials are treading on their liberties, traipsing unannounced on their properties, confronting ranchers with guns drawn to enforce arcane regulatory rules and destroying their livelihoods in the process.
These counties are standing up to the federal government in an epic worthy of David vs. Goliath. This administration, coupled with militant environmentalists, apparently wants this part of California returned to its natural state.
This would be a Ghengis Khan vs. little villages fight if not for this:
The evening’s main event: a panel featuring eight county sheriffs (seven from California, one from Oregon) who billed themselves as “Constitution sheriffs.” They vowed to stand up for the residents of their communities against what they say is an unconstitutional onslaught from regulators in Sacramento and Washington, D.C. In particular, they took issue with the federal government’s misnamed Travel Management Plan, which actually is designed to shut down public travel in the forests.
Plumas County Sheriff Greg Hagwood related the stir he caused when he said he “will not criminalize citizens for just accessing public lands.” Siskiyou County Sheriff Jon Lopey reminded the crowd that county sheriffs are sworn to uphold the Constitution “against all enemies, foreign and domestic.” These are fighting words.
Sheriff Dean Wilson of Del Norte County said he was “ignorant and naïve about the terrible condition our state was in.” He came to believe that people were being assaulted by their own government. “I spent a good part of my life enforcing the penal code but not understanding my oath.” Wilson and other sheriffs said it is their role to defend the liberties of the people against any encroachments, even if those encroachments come from other branches of government.
That’s the right attitude on the Constitution. It’s refreshing to hear these sheriffs state that they’re willing to fight the federal government and the militant environmentalists. The environmentalists’ encroachments on people’s liberties is stunning.
I’ve written that militant environmentalists have done 100 times more damage to this nation’s economy than Wall Street fat cats. I’ve written about Houston County’s attempt to prevent land owners from using their land as they see fit.
As you can see, California isn’t the only place where militant environmentalists are attempting to strip landowners of their livelihood and their private property rights.
These particular types of environmentalists don’t hesitate in crippling a person’s lands rights usage. They’ll use any tactic at their avail. That’s why I call them militant environmentalists. I don’t use the term evil very often. The militant environmentalists, whether they’re waging war with land owners in California, Colorado or Minnesota, are evil.
That’s why it’s important for people to get off their duffs and fight these groups in whatever arena they choose to compete in. It’s time we noticed that militant environmentalists are committed to waging war against private property rights. It’s time we noticed that militant environmentalists are waging a war against prosperity.
I know that sounds melodramatic but it’s easily proven. In fact, I proved that fact in this post:
Along with our allies at the Izaak Walton League of America, the Union of Concerned Scientists and Wind on the Wires, the Minnesota Center for Environmental Advocacy and Fresh Energy argued, first in South Dakota, then before the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission (PUC), that the new plant was a bad idea. Our message was simple: The utilities had not proven the need for the energy, and what energy they did need could be acquired less expensively through energy efficiency and wind.
We kept losing, but a funny thing happened. With each passing year, it became clearer that we were right. In 2007, two of the Minnesota utilities dropped out, citing some of the same points we had been making. The remaining utilities had to go through the process again with a scaled-down 580-megawatt plant.
This time around, the administrative law judge ruled in our favor, saying the utilities had proven the need for, at most, 160 megawatts and had failed to prove that coal would be the least expensive way of providing the electricity. The Minnesota PUC approved the transmission lines into Minnesota, and we filed an appeal that is pending with the Minnesota Court of Appeals.
That’s what Paul Aasen, currently our MPCA commissioner, wrote in a Strib op-ed about his attrition litigation tactics in killing the Big Stone II power plant in Minnesota. It wasn’t about litigation. Aasen freely admits that MCEA and other militant environmentalist organizations that they kept suing until they killed the project.
If people didn’t understand how destructive the militant environmentalists, the EPA, this administration and the US Dept. of Interior are to the US economy before this, they should see it after reading this:
The people in Siskiyou were echoing points I’ve heard throughout rural California. As they see it, government regulators are pursuing controversial policies, i.e., diverting water from farms to save a bait fish, the Delta smelt, clamping down on carbon dioxide emissions to address global warming even if it means driving food processors out of the Central Valley, demolishing dams to increase a population of fish that isn’t endangered, without caring about the costs to rural residents.
Where the federal government shut down the flow of water to protect the Delta Smelt, unemployment shot up to 20-30%. It’s stayed there, too.
This economic terrorism must stop ASAP. Hopefully, these sheriffs and the determination of the people of northern California can defeat the federal government and the militant environmentalists. Hopefully, they can restore a measure of sanity to an insane, foolish state.

The more you put the pieces of the puzzle together, the more clear it becomes that the DFL, DTL-Minnesota and Alida Messinger have a plan to influence elections before a single candidate has been chosen. This isn’t random. It’s part of a plan, a very well thought-out plan.
The first step in the plan was the now-antiquated Secretary of State Project:
Moreover, in 2006 SoSP accused Blackwell and Republicans of conspiring to suppress Democratic voter turnout in Ohio. “We were tired of Republican manipulation of elections,” said Michael Kieschnick. “It seemed like lots of decisions were made by people who were pretty clearly political operatives.” “Any serious commitment to wrestling control of the country from the Republican Party must include removing their political operatives from deciding who can vote and whose votes will count,” added Becky Bond.
The 2006 midterm elections were an important part of the plan. Putting progressive Secretaries of State in place meant that progressives controlled the voting rolls. How important is that? It can’t be emphasized too much.
In Minnesota, hundreds of felons illegally voted in the 2008 elections because Mark Ritchie didn’t update the SVRS, aka the State Voter Registration System to prevent felons from voting. Ritchie’s office said that the Minnesota legislature didn’t give him the authority to do that.
He’s right about that. They didn’t. They didn’t because HAVA, the Help America Vote Act, passed by Congress and signed into law by President Bush, didn’t just give secretaries of state the authority but the affirmative responsibility to keep SVRS updated.
Another part of the progressives’ dream election system is the abolition of Photo ID laws. Initially, progressives said that Photo ID was a poll tax, making it unconstitutional. That argument was shot down when the US Supreme Court ruled on Crawford v. Marion County. What’s interesting is that the ruling wasn’t the typical 5-4 ruling. It was 6-3, with then-Justice John Paul Stevens writing the majority opinion.
After that, the progressives’ argument was that it suppressed turnout. This weekend, that argument got shot down by former Congressional Black Caucus member Artur Davis:
The fact that a law that is unlikely to impede a single good faith voter, and that only gives voting the same elements of security as writing a check at the store, or obtaining a library card, is controversial does say much about the raw feelings in our current politics.
According to Congressman Davis, voter suppression isn’t an issue. Voter fraud is:
The truth is that the most aggressive contemporary voter suppression in the African American community, at least in Alabama, is the wholesale manufacture of ballots, at the polls and absentee, in parts of the Black Belt.
Voting the names of the dead, and the nonexistent, and the too)-mentally-impaired to function, cancels out the votes of citizens who are exercising their rights; that’s suppression by any light. If you doubt it exists, I don’t; I’ve heard the peddlers of these ballots brag about it, I’ve been asked to provide the funds for it, and I am confident it has changed at least a few close local election results.
Let’s connect the dots that we’ve collected thus far.
- Progressives put a plan in place to elect progressive candidates to be the secretaries of state in key battleground states. (For the most part, the progressives’ plan was effective.
- These secretaries of state controlled the SVRS. (This can’t be overemphasized in importance.)
- Controlling the SVRS allowed corrupt secretaries of state like Mark Ritchie to keep inelligible felons from voting by not updating the SVRS.
- Progressives have waged a continuing campaign against Photo ID, first saying it was a poll tax, then arguing that it suppresses voter turnout.
- Voter fraud exists. In fact, Photo ID would prevent alot of fraud, according to former Congressman Artur Davis, (D-AL).
- Davis has identified a way voter fraud has been committed in painstaking detail.
A shorter summary would read like this: progressives put in place secretaries of state, who then didn’t do what the law, specifically HAVA, requires. As a result, felons voted illegally. Progressives also fought against Photo ID laws even though the US Supreme Court ruled the laws constitutional and even though they would’ve prevented the voter fraud described by former Congressman Davis. As must information as that is, that isn’t all of it. In 2010, the nation made a significant shift to the right.
The national righward shift worries progressives because Republicans totally control the redistricting process in alot of key states. That’s why progressives are working hard to minimize the impact of redistricting. That’s why DTL-Midwest was created. Their goal isn’t to take partisanship out of the equation. DTL-Midwest’s goal isn’t transparency, either.
Their goal is to limit the damage of this year’s redistricting. Their goals say one thing. Their actions say the opposite thing. This morning, Kent Kaiser, the vice-chair of DTL-Minnesota’s Citizens Commission, told Rod Grams during his interview that “the map that the legislature drew did a better job of reflecting the Citizens Commission’s principles” than the map submitted in the Citizens Commission’s name.
Progressives are attempting to influence elections using multiple sets of tactics. Corrupt secretaries of state are influencing elections by not keeping SVRS rolls updated properly, which allows felons to vote illegally. Progressives are attempting to influence elections through voter fraud as outlined in a firsthand description of former Congressman Artur Davis, who says people are voting illegally through the “wholesale manufacture of ballots.”
Davis further said that “voting the names of the dead, and the nonexistent, and the too-mentally-impaired to function, cancels out the votes of citizens who are exercising their rights.” That’s voter fraud by any thoughtful person’s definition. It’s the type of thing that only used to be done in Chicago and Philadelphia. Thanks to the progressives’ ends-justifies-the-means attitude, they’ve now spread that practice to the entire nation.
Progressives can’t win elections because their ideas are wildly popular. They can only win elections where the district is overwhelmingly progressive or where they can commit voter fraud. If those things aren’t possible, then they’ll try influencing elections through scams like DTL-Minnesota’s Citizens Commission. Photo ID won’t clean up the entire mess so we shouldn’t pretend it will. To clean out the progressives’ corruption, we’ll need competent, honest secretaries of state who’ll prevent felons from illegally voting.
We’ll also need to continually expose the progressives’ attempt to win elections through redistricting.

Following Gabby Giffords’ shooting in Tuscon, AZ, President Obama called for a new tone. He was right in that there is a hateful tone in America. Unfortunately, he didn’t name who the principle hatemongers are. I’m confident that was intentional because the vast majority of hate is located in what’s frequently called his political base.
This past weekend, it was announced that Sarah Palin would be the featured speaker at a fundraiser for military families. A day later, those plans had changed:
A foundation hosting a charity gala for military families canceled its plans to feature former Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin at the event after “an onslaught of negative feedback” received by the organization.
The Colorado-based Sharon K Pacheco Foundation, which also support at-risk youth, announced Friday that Palin would be a host at its 2011 Patriots and Warriors Charity Gala. The next day, the foundation announced it canceled Palin’s appearance.
“Due to an onslaught of personal attacks against Governor Palin and others associated with her appearance, it is with deep sadness and disappointment that, in the best interest of all, we cancel the event for safety concerns,” the foundation announced on its website. The site still featured a picture of Palin next to the announcement she had been canceled.
The “onslaught of personal attacks against Gov. Palin didn’t come from conservatives. They came from the hateful left. Jim Hoft, the purveyor of Gateway Pundit, has written extensively about the Hateful Left’s thuggery, starting with SEIU’s physical attack against Kenneth Gladney:
St. Louis County police say six people were arrested. Two of those were arrested on suspicion of assault, one of resisting arrest and three on suspicion of committing peace disturbances. Carnahan was gone when the ruckus started.
Kenneth Gladney, a 38-year-old conservative activist from St. Louis, said he was attacked by some of those arrested as he handed out yellow flags with “Don’t tread on me” printed on them. He spoke to the Post-Dispatch from the emergency room of the St. John’s Mercy Medical Center, where he said he was waiting to be treated for injuries to his knee, back, elbow, shoulder and face that he suffered in the attack. Gladney, who is black, said one of his attackers, also a black man, used a racial slur against him before the attack started.
“It just seems there’s no freedom of speech without being attacked,” he said.
That isn’t the only hate-filled attack by the Hateful Left that Jim’s written about:
Outside the Russ Carnahan town hall meeting on Thursday August 6, 2009, a SEIU Carnahan supporter smashed a woman tea party protester in the face with her camera. The woman was filming the assault by SEIU members on black conservative Kenneth Gladney.
Jim isn’t the only person to deal with the Hateful Left’s vitriol. Susan Ferrechio jumps into the fray with this article in the DC Examiner:
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, D-Md., are decrying an “ugly campaign” by angry mobs who are disrupting town hall meetings to discuss health care reform.
The two top House Democrats penned an op-ed piece in USA Today to promote the Health Care reform legislation that is now making its way through the Congress. The bill has a price tag of more than $1 trillion and would be funded by tax increases. It would create a massive government-run insurance plan and would cut back on Medicare expenditures.
As lawmakers try to sell the plan at August town hall meetings in their districts, some have been met with angry crowds who are opposed to the steep cost of the plan and the scope of the government takeover.
Pelosi and Hoyer called the disruptions, “an ugly campaign,” designed “not merely to misrepresent the health insurance reform legislation, but to disrupt public meetings and prevent members of Congress and constituents from conducting a civil dialogue.”
Pelosi and Hoyer pointed to incidents involving protesters hanging lawmakers in effigy, displaying their names on tombstones and generally shouting down any meaningful discussion.
Pelosi and Hoyer called the acts “simply un-American.”
We The People remember the comments made during that “ugly campaign” designed to “prevent members of Congress and constituents from conducting a civil dialogue.” Newsreal wrote about the Hateful Left’s tactics in this post:
Indeed, HCAN published a “playbook” earlier this summer, advising supporters of socialized medicine to adopt the following specific strategies for minimizing the visibility and influence of the protesters:
- You must bring enough people to drown them [the protesters] out.
- Arrive earlier than the other side does: we need to stack our folks in the front to create a wall around the Member [of Congress].
- When the other side gets too loud, we should shut them down with chants that counter their message like “Health Care Can’t Wait!” and “Health Care Delayed Is Health Care Denied!”
- Another way to limit protesters ability to hijack your event is to confiscate signs or leaflets that they may bring into the venue from outside. The best way to do this is to make a blanket rule that no one can bring signs or leaflets.
- You can distribute your own signs in the event and offer them one as they enter if you choose to allow them to enter.
- It’s important that you take away right wingers’ opportunities to talk with reporters by making sure that your staff or leaders are in constant contact with the media who attend.”
What was that, Minority Leader Pelosi? I couldn’t hear you over the Hateful Left’s thug tactics.
That’s before we start discussing SEIU’s thug tactics in Montgomery County, Maryland:
Last Sunday, on a peaceful, sun-crisp afternoon, our toddler finally napping upstairs, my front yard exploded with 500 screaming, placard-waving strangers on a mission to intimidate my neighbor, Greg Baer. Baer is deputy general counsel for corporate law at Bank of America a senior executive based in Washington, D.C. And that, in the minds of the organizers at the politically influential Service Employees International Union and a Chicago outfit called National Political Action, makes his family fair game.
Waving signs denouncing bank “greed,” hordes of invaders poured out of 14 school buses, up Baer’s steps, and onto his front porch. As bullhorns rattled with stories of debtor calls and foreclosed homes, Baer’s teenage son Jack, alone in the house, locked himself in the bathroom. “When are they going to leave?” Jack pleaded when I called to check on him.
If I wanted to make this my life’s mission, I could go on and on and on and on about the Hateful Left’s evil actions. The actions just in this post include a) crimes like assault and trespassing, b) political leaders calling grassroots activists’ protests because they’re worried about health care policy un-American and c) the Hateful Left’s scripted plans for how to drown out well-intentioned, policy-oriented protests against the government’s takeover of the health insurance industry.
I put this list, which is anything but comprehensive, together in less than an hour. Much less, in fact. The reality is that I’m just scratching the surface on this.
The point of all this is that President Obama’s call for a new tone rings hollow. If he cares about setting a new tone, he’d call out the Hateful Left and their thug-like tactics. He would’ve criticized SEIU for trespassing on Don Baer’s lawn while terrorizing their son. He would’ve criticized SEIU for beating Kenneth Gladney for selling Don’t Tread On Me flags outside a health care town hall meeting in St. Louis.
He should’ve criticized Nancy Pelosi and Steny Hoyer for calling concerned citizens worried about President Obama’s takeover of the health insurance industry un-American. He should’ve criticized HCAN for putting together a plan that insulated legislators from their constituents.
That he didn’t speaks volumes.
I don’t think President Obama is part of the Hateful Left but HCAN and SEIU definitely are.
President Obama owes the nation an apology for not speaking out against the vilest vitriol coming from his party’s base. HCAN should be shunned by all thoughtful Democrats. Where applicable, SEIU should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
Anything less is justice denied.

If there’s anything that gets my blood boiling, it’s hearing about the progressive left’s mob tactics. Last May, I wrote about the SEIU invading Greg Baer’s private property. I thought it was thuggish behavior then. I’m more certain of it now, especially after watching Megyn Kelly’s interview of Nina Easton.
Now a new progressive protest is being planned at the developer’s private home. The protest is being organized by an organization called WalmartfreeDC. When they protested in December, they had a flier put together, complete with the developer’s name and address. (I won’t link to the flier because I won’t highlight this organization’s thuggish, threatening behavior.)
Thursday afternoon, during Megyn Kelly’s interview with Nina Easton, Ms. Kelly used the term protest in connection with the Montgomery County event. Ms. Easton stopped her, saying that it isn’t a protest when 14 busloads of SEIU workers pile out of the buses, step onto the front steps of the home with their bullhorns, saying things that scared the family’s teenage son who was home alone.
When the Baer family came home, the mob was still there saying threatening things to the point that the Baer’s younger son who walked through the mob is still having nightmares 8 months later.
If people want to peacefully protest at the developer’s office, that’s one thing. Bringing a large group of angry people to a person’s private property isn’t a protest. It’s an act of intimidation and it’s tresspassing.
Walmart Free DC stepped over the line, and then some, when they protested at the developer’s private property. The DC police better stop this organization dead in its tracks before they go up on the developer’s property again.
People need to tell Walmart Free DC and similar thuggish organizations that their misbehavior won’t be tolerated. Check out the incendiary language that’s used on WFDC’s website:
“We are not interested in negotiating the terms of Wal-Mart’s arrival,” Wal-Mart Free DC says on its site’s “about” section. “We know the harmful impact that Wal-Mart always has, from thousands of case studies around the country, and around the world. We believe in our hearts, and in our minds, that DC must continue to be Wal-Mart Free.”
Thankfully, the Blaze throws this important tidbit of information into their post:
Despite claims that Walmart destroys communities, however, the group cites no specific studies or examples. And the group spokesperson did not respond to a request for such material.
The left’s thuggish behavior must be exposed and, when appropriate, prosecuted. This can’t be swept under the proverbial rug. It’s something that must be fought aggressively from a law enforcement standpoint, from a lawsuit standpoint and from a political standpoint.
If President Obama wants us to take him seriously, then he needs to aggressively speak out against the left’s thuggish organizations like SEIU and WFDC. Making a passing comment about misbehavior won’t cut it. These organizations must be called out by name and, when they break the law, they must be aggressively prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
I’m not opposed to passing laws classifying these specific thuggish actions as felonies. In fact, I’d applaud the passing of those types of laws. The truth is that the Thugs R Us wing of the Democratic Party must be criticized and prosecuted when it’s warranted.

The New Black Panther Election Day Intimidation story isn’t new. It’s literally been in the press since Election Day, 2008. This weekend, the story took a new twist, thanks to J. Christian Adams’s op-ed. Here’s what will infuriate fair-minded Americans:
On the day President Obama was elected, armed men wearing the black berets and jackboots of the New Black Panther Party were stationed at the entrance to a polling place in Philadelphia. They brandished a weapon and intimidated voters and poll watchers. After the election, the Justice Department brought a voter-intimidation case against the New Black Panther Party and those armed thugs. I and other Justice attorneys diligently pursued the case and obtained an entry of default after the defendants ignored the charges. Before a final judgment could be entered in May 2009, our superiors ordered us to dismiss the case.
The New Black Panther case was the simplest and most obvious violation of federal law I saw in my Justice Department career. Because of the corrupt nature of the dismissal, statements falsely characterizing the case and, most of all, indefensible orders for the career attorneys not to comply with lawful subpoenas investigating the dismissal, this month I resigned my position as a Department of Justice (DOJ) attorney.
We’ve known that the New Black Panthers didn’t bother to put up a legal fight. There’s no defending something with that much visual evidence. That’s a case even I could win. The facts speak for themselves.
That part isn’t new.
What’s new is that a prosecutor working the case has stepped forward to accuse the assistant attorney general for civil rights, Tom Perez, of testifying that the “facts and law” did not support this case. Here’s something else that’s new:
Most corrupt of all, the lawyers who ordered the dismissal, Loretta King, the Obama-appointed acting head of the Civil Rights Division, and Steve Rosenbaum, did not even read the internal Justice Department memorandums supporting the case and investigation. Just as Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. admitted that he did not read the Arizona immigration law before he condemned it, Mr. Rosenbaum admitted that he had not bothered to read the most important department documents detailing the investigative facts and applicable law in the New Black Panther case. Christopher Coates, the former Voting Section chief, was so outraged at this dereliction of responsibility that he actually threw the memos at Mr. Rosenbaum in the meeting where they were discussing the dismissal of the case. The department subsequently removed all of Mr. Coates’ responsibilities and sent him to South Carolina.
Let’s swap out the New Black Panthers Party and insert white supremacists. Let’s swap out the white voters and insert black voters. Is there any doubt but that the white supremacists would’ve been prosecuted, convicted and received the maximum sentence? Of course there isn’t. The facts speak for themselves. It’s that obvious.
Most disgusting is this information:
Some of my co-workers argued that the law should not be used against black wrongdoers because of the long history of slavery and segregation. Less charitable individuals called it “payback time.” Incredibly, after the case was dismissed, instructions were given that no more cases against racial minorities like the Black Panther case would be brought by the Voting Section.
If this information is the truth, then it’s time to start cleaning out the Obama Injustice Department. It’s corrupt to the point that Loretta King, Steve Rosenbaum and Tom Perez should probably be brought up on ethics charges, if not criminal charges.
If the law isn’t applied equally to everyone, then it’s worthless.
I’d love seeing a reporter at Monday’s White House Briefing ask Robert Gibbs why this case was dropped. Further, I’d love seeing the White House press corps pepper him with question after question on this subject.
If the media won’t question these actions, then that should be the final nail in the Agenda Media’s coffin. If the Agenda Media won’t ask questions about such a vile potential scandal, then they’re complicit in any potential scandal.
With the exception of the Nixon administration, I haven’t read about this type of corruption since I started following politics. If the NBPP isn’t held accountable for their acts of intimidation, then this administration needs to be swept into the dustbin of history during the 2012 elections.
There’s no excusing this, though the bloggers at MainJustice attempt to do just that in this post:
When the George W. Bush Justice Department filed a civil complaint against members of the New Black Panther Party in January, it invoked a rarely used provision of the 1965 Voting Rights Act to allege voter intimidation.
It was the second time the Bush DOJ filed suit under Section 11 (b) of the landmark civil rights legislation, both times targeting black defendants.
The common denominator in these unusual applications of Section 11 (b) is J. Christian Adams, a line attorney at the Justice Department who compiled the Black Panthers case and also worked on a 2005 federal lawsuit against black officials in Mississippi accused of discriminating against whites.
Adams is a career Voting Section lawyer. He is also a foot soldier in the conservative movement, hired into the Justice Department during the Bush administration under a process the department’s Inspector General concluded was improperly politicized.
Adams’s background helps explain how a relatively minor incident in Philadelphia during the 2008 presidential election involving two members of an anti-white fringe group blossomed into a political controversy for the Obama administration.
“Adams’ background helps explain how a relatively minor incident in Philadelphia…blossomed into a political controversy“? Excuse me? This wasn’t an isolated incident like these bloggers would have you believe:
Some have called the actions in Philadelphia an isolated incident, not worthy of federal attention. To the contrary, the Black Panthers in October 2008 announced a nationwide deployment for the election. We had indications that polling-place thugs were deployed elsewhere, not only in November 2008, but also during the Democratic primaries, where they targeted white Hillary Rodham Clinton supporters. In any event, the law clearly prohibits even isolated incidents of voter intimidation.
Let these lefty bloggers whine all they want about Adams’ political affiliation. They’re utterly irrelevant to this story. What’s relevant is that the New Black Panther Party was caught on tape committing acts of voter intimidation. Res ipsa loquitur. The facts speak for themselves.
It’s that simple.

If I was asked to write a caption to the penalties included in Pelosi’s Abomination, I’d write this:
Pelosi to America: Do as you’re told or we’ll ruin you financially.
Thanks to Rep. Dave Camp’s press release, which includes the Joint Committee on Taxation’s (JCT’s) letter, we now know that the penalties for not complying with Speaker Pelosi’s tyrannical demands are astronomical:
In response to the JCT letter, Camp said: “This is the ultimate example of the Democrats’ command-and-control style of governing: buy what we tell you or go to jail. It is outrageous and it should be stopped immediately.â€
Key excerpts from the JCT letter appear below:
“H.R. 3962 provides that an individual (or a husband and wife in the case of a joint return) who does not, at any time during the taxable year, maintain acceptable health insurance coverage for himself or herself and each of his or her qualifying children is subject to an additional tax.†[page 1]
“If the government determines that the taxpayer’s unpaid tax liability results from willful behavior, the following penalties could apply…†[page 2]
“Criminal penalties
Prosecution is authorized under the Code for a variety of offenses. Depending on the level of the noncompliance, the following penalties could apply to an individual:
• Section 7203: misdemeanor willful failure to pay is punishable by a fine of up to $25,000 and/or imprisonment of up to one year.
• Section 7201: felony willful evasion is punishable by a fine of up to $250,000 and/or imprisonment of up to five years.†[page 3]
WAKE UP PEOPLE!!! Pelosi is a tyrant. She’s telling America that we must do what she says or we’ll be prosecuted, with the very real possibility of getting ruined financially by the federal government. This isn’t a dictatorship!!! Just because Speaker Pelosi is acting like it is doesn’t make it so.
It’s now vital that We The People reject Speaker Pelosi’s tyrannical demands. This is the opposite of what the Founding Fathers envisioned when they fought for independence. In fact, I suspect that they’d be leaders of the TEA Party protests if they were living through this type of tyranny.
I suspect that they’d be standing with people arguing that the federal government doesn’t have the constitutional authority to impose these mandates on people, that the Tenth Amendment prevents that constitutionally.
If the bill’s provisions were enacted, here’s what we’d have to deal with:
According to the Congressional Budget Office the lowest cost family non-group plan under the Speaker’s bill would cost $15,000 in 2016.
As long as we have the ability to get to Capitol Hill, we should be fighting Speaker Pelosi and her corrupt minions over this legislation because it’s evil. Yes, you read that right. This legislation, especially the penalty provisions, are EVIL!!! Anything that tells We The People that the government, whatever the level, can tell us that we must purchase things that we don’t want to buy is evil. It’s a GIGANTIC STEP towards a Soviet style command-and-control economy.
Speaker Pelosi needs to hear from everyone across the nation that we’re rejecting her tyrannical legislation, that they work for us and that we’ll take our deep disgust out on Democrats across this nation. We should make clear that passing the Democrats’ legislation will lead to a mass termination of Democrats next November. We should emphatically tell Speaker Pelosi AND HER MINIONS that they’ll face a political earthquake next November the likes of which will make Virginia’s elections look like a minor tremor.
Yesterday, Byron York wrote that Democrats are more afraid of Speaker Pelosi than their constituents. That dynamic must be flipped on its head ASAP. It’s time that the Democrats knew with unflinching certainty that they’re acting against the will of the people and that their actions will carry with it a termination notice next November.
That’s the only right course of action to take when our liberties are being stripped away by a tyrant like Speaker Pelosi. Speaker Pelosi and her Democratic minions are waging war against the American people. If it’s war they want, then war they will get.
UPDATE: Ed NAILS IT in this post:
The radical nature of the bill has finally become clear. The Democrats most at risk have begun peeling away, abortion vote or no abortion vote. They have to win re-election in less than a year, and this will be Exhibit A for their Republican challengers looking to paint them as big-spending statists more interested in bullying their constituents than listening to them.
Don’t be surprised to see more Democrats start to jump overboard this weekend. Steny Hoyer didn’t think he had the votes yesterday, and the longer this goes, the fewer he will wind up having.
Ed’s exactly right. I referenced Byron York’s article where he said that moderate Democrats were more afraid of Speaker Pelosi than they were of their constituents.
I think that just changed with this information getting out. If people don’t get upset to the nth degree, then they’re comatose.

Yesterday, the United States celebrated its 233rd anniversary of its independence. This president, however, doesn’t seem to put a priority on liberty. Instead, he’s joined with Daniel Ortega, Hugo Chavez, the Castro brothers and the OAS in criticizing Honduras for throwing out its tyrant leader. Now the OAS has suspended Honduras’ membership in the OAS:
A week after Central America’s first coup in more than a quarter of a century, tensions were at breaking point in the Central American nation as ousted President Manuel Zelaya planned to return.
The country’s interim leaders were more defiant than ever in the face of growing isolation and public anger, apparently set on staying put until November elections despite freezes in aid, withdrawn foreign ambassadors and temporary trade blockages.
The Organization of American States suspended Honduras late Saturday, in the first such move since the exclusion of Cuba in 1962, adding to the growing international pressure.
Let’s first put in place the foundation of facts on why Zeleya was ousted. Here’s Jim Hoft’s post on Zeleya’s ouster:
Honduran El Heraldo reported:
The president should not allow Barack Obama a victory of “Chavism” in Honduras and should take into account that the impeachment of president Manuel Zelaya was made by order of the Supreme Court and of respect for institutions, said Wednesday the Wall Street Journal.
Zelaya was plotting to remain in power, the Journal reported in an editorial. He added that the Honduran president had help from Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez to reform the constitution to run for reelection and to meet its target as it did the same Chavez.
“The events of Honduras should be interpreted in light of the decade of chavismo in Latin America,” said an editorial in the Journal.
In other words, Zeleya was planning on rewriting Honduras’ constitution so he could stay in power forever. The Honduran Supreme Court said that that action violated the Honduran Constitution, at which time Zeleya tried throwing out the Honduran Surpreme Court.
The minute that happened, the Honduran Supreme Court gave the Honduran military the authority to remove Zeleya from power, which it did.
It’s at that point that Hugo Chavez, Raul Castro, Daniel Ortega and President Obama criticized the Honduran Supreme Court for enforcing the Honduran Constitution. That’s what led to the OAS’ suspension of Honduras from the organization. The next logical step is for the OAS to impose sanctions on Honduras.
This is insanity but it’s perfectly understandable. It’s insanity because an organization of thugs is criticizing a sovereign nation for abiding by its constitution. It’s perfectly understandable because Chavez, Ortega, Castro and Obama have little regard for their nation’s constitutions.
Especially in light of yesterday’s Independence Day celebrations, We The People should send President Obama the message that siding with Ortega, Castro, Chavez and Zeleya is the worst possible decision he could’ve made. We The People should also insist that the Honduran Constitution be obeyed and that sanctions not be imposed.
We’re supposed to be the nation that stands for liberty and the rule of law. Had this happened during the Bush administration, there’s little doubt but that we wouldn’t have sided with power-crazed thugs like Castro, Chavez, Ortega and Zeleya. We would’ve sided with the rule of law and Honduran sovereignty.
It’s charitable to say that President Obama’s foreign policy is erratic. It’s accurate to say that President Obama’s foreign policy hasn’t been properly thought through and that there isn’t a hint of consistency in it. Frankly, he’s looked ill-equipped to make important foreign policy decisions.
As for the OAS, they’re disgracing themselves by siding with a lawless thug like Zeleya. What does it say about an organization that sides with a thug that tries rewriting his country’s constitution and criticizes a nation’s leaders for obeying their constitution?
