Kim Strassel’s Potomac Watch column nails it in terms of the presidential campaign. She wrote “The headlines of late proceed from the premise that Joe Biden is on a glide path to the White House. Stories highlight polls showing President Trump losing key swing states, even GOP strongholds. Texas is in play! Georgia is at risk! Journalists explain that Mr. Biden is banking money, while the Trump campaign’s leadership team is in chaos. They feature congressional race trackers, who rate more Republicans as vulnerable. All that’s left is for Jill Biden to pick the curtains.”

Let’s stop this stupidity this instant. Joe Biden is proposing to destroy the fossil fuel economy but fossil fuel-rich Texas is in play? That’s a joke and then some. This article says it all: “Biden’s liberal climate policies feared by unions in Pennsylvania.”

If Biden’s climate change policies worry union bosses in Pennsylvania, which Trump won by 44,000 votes, what’s the likelihood that Trump’s in danger of losing Texas, which he won by 807,000 votes? Does Trump have an enthusiasm problem in Texas? I wouldn’t bet on it.

Mr. Biden is promising to delete the jobs of millions of Americans—at a time of soaring unemployment. A study by the National Ocean Industries Association finds that a ban on offshore drilling alone would cost 200,000 jobs, damaging regional economies. Mr. Biden would overrun the nation with solar panels, wind turbines and charging stations. Basic consumer choice would disappear for vehicles, dishwashers, even homes. The Justice Department would become a weapon against businessmen who run afoul of fast-changing progressive standards.

That will be a huge issue in battleground states this fall. It won’t be the biggest issue, though. Riots and “Defund the Police” will be the biggest issue. COVID will be important, just not as important as Defund. People have worries about COVID but they’ve learned to live with the risk. They’re frightened about the riots and Defund the Police. Outside elderly neighborhoods, COVID isn’t that big of a worry.

Every neighborhood is threatened by Defund the Police. Either that or they know someone who’s threatened by defunding police departments. Further, Joe Biden is on the wrong side of the Defund issue. Yes, Chris Wallace, Biden did say that he’s for defunding the police:

Hint: redirecting money away from police departments is defunding. It’s just using a different word. The effect is still the same.

The Trump White House used the week to lay out a competing vision. At a UPS facility in Georgia Wednesday, the president announced a “top-to-bottom overhaul” of the federal environmental review process, which stands in the way of nearly every infrastructure project in the country. Transformation of that permitting regime would clear the way for new highways, ports, bridges, pipelines and tunnels. That would create millions of jobs, attract more business to America and make the country more competitive. “Biden wants to massively re-regulate the energy economy,” Mr. Trump said, drawing the contrast. “We want to get things built.”

In other words, President Trump wants to make life better faster. Biden wants to listen to AOC’s and Bernie’s socialist instructions. That’s the fast-track to a lost decade.

We lost a decade of economic growth during the Obama administration. We’d experience worse economic growth during a Biden-Sanders-AOC administration. In fact, we’d likely experience a major recession during a Biden-AOC-Sanders administration.

This election shouldn’t be that close. Joe Biden is barely able to form sentences, much less put together complete paragraphs. President Trump has put together an economic record that outshines any other recent president. Prior to the Chinese Communist Party Virus, wages were rising, minority unemployment was the lowest in this nation’s history and we were standing up to China for the first time in history.

It’s time to admit that, whether you like President Trump or not, he’s accomplished more in 3 years than Obama or Bush got done in 8 years each. It’s time to admit, too, that being presidential isn’t as important as making Americans’ lives better with great policies. To the disgusting Never Trump brigade, their hatred of Trump is more important to them than saving our nation.

David Limbaugh captures this perfectly in this column:

These establishment handwringers have shown themselves ill-equipped to analyze Trump or his supporters because they can’t adapt their expertise and experience to Trump, who broke the mold and is unlike any political figure they’ve ever encountered. They are handicapped by their blindness to the unprecedented fascism of today’s political left.

Newsflash: The overwhelming majority of Trump supporters don’t give a rip about his so-called presidentiality. They don’t care about the proverbial crease in his pants, or many other characteristics the pseudo-sophisticated Beltway elite cherish. They don’t want someone like Mitt Romney, who let President Barack Obama walk all over him in a presidential debate instead of fighting for what he purported to believe in.

This isn’t debate society, where judges rate which contestants used the proper verb and nuance to persuade the masses. This is a street fight, complete with baseball bats wrapped with barbed wire and other lethal weapons wielded by Marxists. If we don’t fight this fight with everything we’ve got, America will be lost.

Today’s Democrats don’t care about creating great policies. Hubert Humphrey’s, Bill Clinton’s or Daniel Patrick Moynihan’s Democrats cared about that. Those Democrats disappeared in 2006-07. Today’s Democrats are increasingly Marxist. Jessica Tarlov and Marie Harf can talk all they want about there being more moderate Democrats than Marxist AOC-Bernie Sanders Democrats. Joe Biden used to be somewhat of a centrist. Today, he’s telling hand-picked fawning reporters that he favors cutting funding for police officers while angry mobs attack police officers.

Today’s Democrats are busy “reimagining policing” while neighborhoods and family businesses get demolished by Antifa/BLM. Most importantly, Democrats aren’t listening to the people they’re supposed to represent. When white activists attend the Minneapolis Charter Commission hearing, then demand the dismantling of the MPD, that’s disgusting. Yes, they have the First Amendment right to air their grievances to the Commission. Let’s be honest, though. They’re calling for minority neighborhoods to lose police protection.

Fine. In the words of Harold Hamilton, if these activists want to dismantle the MPD, then let their neighborhoods go without police protection. Let their 9-1-1 calls get answered last. They wanted policing reimagined. Let their neighborhoods experience what it’s like to be vulnerable. Perhaps, that’ll trigger a woke awakening to reality.

It’s one thing to spew Democrat talking points. It’s quite another to live with the reality of Democrat policies.

Newt Gingrich has always been one of the best political thinkers in the business. When he writes or talks, I stop and listen to what he has to say. When I saw this article, I started digging into it. It didn’t take long to figure out that the Defund The Police Democrats are pushing a losing issue.

For instance, Gingrich wrote “The gap between the radical Left and the American people was captured in a recent Pew Poll that showed 73 percent of the American people opposed cutting spending on the police, and only 25 percent favored decreasing spending on the police.” Gingrich continued “Twenty percent of those asked said we should spend a little more on police, and 11 percent said we should spend a lot more (for a total of 31 percent who favor spending more money on policing). By contrast, 12 percent said to cut a lot, and slightly under 14 percent said to cut a little. The largest bloc of Americans was 42 percent, who said we should keep police funding where it is.”

Twenty-six percent of people wanted police spending cut a little or a lot. Everyone else wanted police spending kept the same, increased a little or increased a lot. That’s a 3:1 margin opposed to the Democrats’ Defund the Police policy.

It’s possible to win if you’re on the wrong side of a 3:1 issue if nobody cares about the issue. It’s impossible to win if you’re on the 1-side of a 3:1 issue that everyone cares passionately about.

This pattern is not just about speeches, slogans and platforms. Democrats in Minneapolis are abolishing the city’s police department and replacing it with some undefined community service program. You can imagine how intimidated robbers, murderers and rapists will be by the unarmed-but-sincere Minneapolis community service force.

In Seattle, Democrats are cutting the police budget by 50 percent with a similar community service fantasy replacement. Given that six people were shot, which led to the death of two teenagers, during what the Democratic mayor called “the summer of love” in the city’s “autonomous zone,” you might have thought the people of Seattle would get more police protection rather than less.

Seattle Police Chief Carmen Best calls Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan’s plan to cut the SPD budget by 50% “reckless”:

Democrats like Pelosi, Schumer and Biden can insist that they aren’t for defunding the police all they want. What matters is Seattle cutting the SPD budget by 50%, Minneapolis voting to dismantle the MPD and Bill de Blasio cutting the $6,000,000,000 NYPD budget by $1,000,000,000. When crime rates skyrocket, Democrats will pay the price. Republicans are proposing reasonable reforms but they’re pushing cities to increase spending on police departments, too. The American people are smart enough to know that Republicans are proposing things that keep people safe and that Democrats are the party that support Antifa, BLM and decimated police departments.

People either understood or anticipated that COVID would eventually get defeated. They took COVID seriously but it wasn’t something that they were afraid of. This violence worries people. It isn’t just quarantined to poor neighborhoods. It’s migrated into Manhattan, some rich neighborhoods in St. Louis and Seattle. The point is that this violence doesn’t recognize geographic boundaries. It goes where it wants.

That’s why the Democrats defund debate is a loser.

Derek Hunter’s Townhall article is titled “Liberal’s All-Out Assault On Free Speech” is a frightening assault on the English language. Frankly, it’s sloppy and incorrect. Hunter wrote “While the “conservatives” at the time were the ones imposing penalties on speech, it’s now the liberals seeking to do the same, and worse. The idea of criminalizing so-called “hate speech” has been popular with college-aged liberals for a while now. While normal people laughed at those stupid college kids needing safe spaces when someone was on campus saying things they didn’t agree with and requiring “trigger warnings” before engaging in normal human conversations on subject that might cause them to need a diaper change, liberals were busy looking for an opportunity to use this childishness to their advantage. They found it…by becoming them.”

The people “imposing penalties on speech” aren’t liberals. They’re progressives. There’s a world of difference between liberals and progressives. Democrats like Hubert Humphrey and Daniel Patrick Moynihan were liberal policywise but their liberalism had a healthy libertarian streak to it. Today’s progressives, like AOC, Adam Schiff or any Antifa/BLM member, have a fascist streak running through them.

We can’t defeat progressivism or the Cancel Culture if we aren’t properly identifying them. Cancel Culture’s fascism and BLM’s Marxism have totalitarian underpinnings to them. They aren’t interested in compromise, principled or otherwise. They’re interested in domination and total victory. Antifa ‘warriors’ often sound tougher than they are but their principle tactic is intimidation. In this instance, they ran into police prepared to deal with their intimidation:

These aren’t liberal protesters getting chased. They’re fascist thugs attempting to disrupt and potentially demolish a city. In this case, they were trying to destroy Portland, OR. This time, the fascists lost.

What we call them determine what weapons and tactics are required for the situation. Against fascists, I know that I’m not changing hearts and minds. My highest priority is protecting myself. That means we should think in terms of getting into a street fight. That means becoming a hardened target. Once we’re operating with that mindset, we’re properly prepared for the fight at hand.

Jason Lewis debated Paul Wellstone often. At the end of the debate, they’d compliment each other for the good points they’d made. Antifa sees that as a sign of weakness. Lewis vs. Wellstone is like Psalm 23, which says “Yea, though I walk through the Valley of the shadow of death, I shall fear no evil, for Thou art with me.” The Street Version of Psalm 23 goes like this: “Yea, though I walk through the Valley of the shadow of death, I shall fear no evil because I’m the biggest, baddest SOB in the valley.”

According to this article, Minneapolis isn’t the only city that’s planning on dismantling their police department. According to Sophie Mann’s reporting, “The Black Lives Matter Philadelphia chapter is calling for the “complete abolition” of the city’s police department in the next five years.”

In their own words

“One of the things that we are demanding over five years is the complete abolition. We don’t want to see any police in our community. Over the course of those five years, it gives time for the community to begin to build what is needed. We aren’t looking to leave any kind of vacancy around the issue of safety,” BLM activist YahNé Ndgo told Fox News.

Without police, there isn’t safety. That’s been proven in NYC, Minneapolis and Chicago. The notion that social workers will replace the police is beyond absurd.

The history of the police force is “centered around the ruling class and protection of the ruling class and being an extension of the system of oppression,” said Ndgo. “Quite often, if there is violence happening, by the time the police arrive, that has already occurred and particularly in poor neighborhoods and in black and brown communities. So the police are not really a resource for preventing that kind of crime from happening. Just a response,” she continued.

Years of understaffing (and undercutting) police officers has made Philadelphia a less-than-safe city. What’s needed is a culture change in Philadelphia, starting with their mayor, city council and police chief. The passivity of the Philadelphia city government helps feed the ineffectiveness of the police force. This sends the wrong message:

It’s foolish to think that this won’t beget more rioting, violence or disorder. Weakness begets weakness. That’s been proven in Atlanta, Chicago, Minneapolis, NYC and Seattle in the last month. That’s because there’s lots of bad people out there. Dismantling the police is just a way to turn a difficult situation into a terrible situation.

These ‘protesters’ aren’t entirely peaceful. They’re there as human shields for the anarchists, looters and rioters.

Anyone that wants to live in the Squad’s America is beyond stupid. Yesterday, they announced that they’d introduce the BREATHE Act. These ingrates are serious about passing this legislation. If you’re wondering what’s in the BREATHE Act, I’ll tell you.

According to the article, the BREATHE Act “would radically transform the nation’s criminal justice system by eliminating life sentences, retroactively expunging drug crimes, shutting down multiple federal agencies and permanently closing prisons and immigration detention centers, among other agenda items.” Among the federal agencies that they’re attempting to shut down are the DEA and ICE. (Perhaps you’ve heard of them?)

At the Democrats’ press availability, Ilhan Omar said that criminal justice reform isn’t enough:

“We can’t stop at criminal justice reform or policing reform,” she said during an outdoor press conference. “We are not merely fighting to tear down the systems of oppression in the criminal justice system. We are fighting to tear down systems of oppression that exist in housing, in education, in health care, in employment, [and] in the air we breathe.”

What Ilhan Omar is describing isn’t the United States that the Founding Fathers fought for. Sen. John Kennedy, (R-LA), put it best:

Growing up, I was taught that America was “the land of the free and the home of the brave.” If Biden, Pelosi and Schumer are running things, neither of those things will be true. Biden has said that he wants to transform America. Into what, Joe? This?

Let’s be emphatic about this. Until now, people haven’t talked forthrightly about Joe Biden’s mental instability. I won’t make that mistake. On his best day, Joe Biden is hard-pressed to tell the difference between a Friday in November or a Monday in July. If elected, he’d become the first president removed via the Twenty-Fifth Amendment. That wasn’t a question. That’s a prediction. Watch this, then tell me I’m wrong:

Eight seconds into this video, Biden’s eyes glaze over. He doesn’t know what he’s saying anymore. And that’s reading from a teleprompter! That’s frightening. It’s time for Republicans to stop playing nice. This isn’t a friendly debate over tax policy or education. This is a fight to make sure that the next president isn’t a puppet of the Squad.

Joe Biden used to be a failed politician. Surrounded by Bernie Sanders, the Squad and Chuck Schumer, he’d be a puppet of BLM. within 3 years, the United States wouldn’t be a constitutional republic anymore.

Thank God that the Black Lives Matter Movement knows everything. They must be omniscient after emphatically stating that “We know that police don’t keep us safe.” I always thought that police kept people safe. Didn’t police officers run into the World Trade Center towers on 9/11? The police in that instance certainly tried to keep people safe.

According to BLM’s website, “We know that police don’t keep us safe — and as long as we continue to pump money into our corrupt criminal justice system at the expense of housing, health, and education investments, we will never be truly safe. That’s why we are calling to #DefundPolice and #InvestInCommunities…”

Defunding the police is stupid. They’re overwhelmed as it is. This article highlights why better funding of the police is required:

Gunfire and carnage are sweeping across America’s streets.

At least six children ages 6 to 14 died in a spate of shootings over the past five days, as the level of gun violence and murder surpassed the deadly total at the same time last year. Chicago reported 87 shootings and 17 fatalities from Thursday evening through Sunday night. At least 13 of the shooting victims were under 14 years old. New York suffered 44 shootings and 11 deaths from gun violence from Friday through Sunday. Philadelphia reported 31 shootings and seven deaths from gun violence.

What organization or movement would call for defunding the police when we know what works? This isn’t working. BLM is part of the problem. They aren’t part of the solution.

The simple truth is that cities need better trained forces. Cities need lots more forces, too:

Baltimore Police Commissioner Michael Harrison on Monday said officers held back because “it was tactically unsafe.”

“As the Baltimore Police Department was responding to several life and death incidents across the city, a small number of officers were assigned to assist with peaceful protests taking place in the downtown area,” he said in a statement. “As the number of protesters grew, it was tactically unsafe for those few officers to position themselves between the protesters and the Christopher Columbus Statue in an attempt to prevent vandalism and destruction.”

What’s most needed is a change of political leadership that won’t throw officers under the bus. Each time a Bill de Blasio, Jenny Durkan or Jacob Frey hesitates or doesn’t let their officers do their job, it creates doubt with the officers.

Black Lives Matter isn’t behind all of these shootings. They’re just the organization that’s lobbying for inadequate force funding.

The Kansas City Chiefs have signed Patrick Mahomes, their Super Bowl-winning QB, to a 10-year contract extension. Now that the NFL has jumped into bed with the Black Lives Matter Movement, I’m officially a former fan of the NFL, including the Minnesota Vikings. Any corporation or organization that sides with Marxists isn’t worthy of my patronage.

Last year, I officially stopped watching the NBA because they sided with the Chinese. We were lectured that the NBA was trying to open up China’s market. Anyone that supports the manufacture of Nike products in Chinese sweat shops by child labor won’t get a penny from me.

When the NFL announced that they’d play “the Black National Anthem” right before the official National Anthem, they made it clear that they were doing this to “recognize the victims of police brutality.” According to this article, “the league is also considering allowing players to wear helmet decals or jersey patches recognizing those who have been impacted by systemic racism and police brutality.”

In June, in the wake of nationwide protest over systemic racism, the NFL released a statement in support of Black Lives Matter, writing: “This is a time of self-reflection for all – the NFL is no exception. We stand with the Black community because Black Lives Matter.”

What about black children like Secoriea Turner, the innocent 8-year-old who was killed “while riding in a vehicle with her mother and an adult friend, according to police. The driver was attempting to enter a parking lot at 1238 Pryor Road where a group of individuals illegally placed barricades. Someone in the group opened fire on the vehicle, according to police, striking Turner.” Doesn’t this beautiful child matter?

Here’s more from the official NFL statement:

“Through Inspire Change, the NFL, Players and our partners have supported programs and initiatives throughout the country to address systemic racism. We will continue using our platform to challenge the injustice around us,” continued the statement.

Like the rest of the nation, the NFL will make symbolic gestures to appease Black Lives Matters. What the NFL won’t do is pay attention to the innocent lives lost like Secoriea Turner. What the NFL didn’t do is their homework. Does the NFL want to partner with an organization that wants to defund the police? Check this out:

#DefundThePolice
May 30, 2020
Enough is enough. Our pain, our cries, and our need to be seen and heard resonate throughout this entire country. We demand acknowledgment and accountability for the devaluation and dehumanization of Black life at the hands of the police. We call for radical, sustainable solutions that affirm the prosperity of Black lives.

That’s right. Defunding the police leaves the poorest minority neighborhoods in the most precarious positions. Apparently, the NFL doesn’t care about those black lives. After all, poor blacks aren’t likely to attend games and produce revenue for the NFL.

Question for the NFL: isn’t it an injustice that poor minority neighborhoods are the neighborhoods where violent crime is most prevalent? What about that injustice? Doesn’t that injustice matter to you because they don’t have a high-profile mouth-piece to lobby for them?

Now that Minnesotans told Tim Walz and the DFL that they wouldn’t pay for his and Jacob Frey’s failure to respond to the Minneapolis/George Floyd rioting, Walz is looking for a different target to fleece for his incompetence. Gov. Walz “has asked President Trump for a federal disaster declaration” to pay for Gov. Walz’s and Mayor Frey’s hesitation and poor preparation. The DFL wants to make stupid decisions without there being a financial disciplining. This money shouldn’t come from Minnesota or federal taxpayers. It should come from Minneapolis DFL taxpayers. Period. Full stop.

In this statement, Walz wrote “We need to come together to ensure Minnesotans who were victims of this destruction have access to critical infrastructure they need so they can go to the grocery store, pick up their medication, and live their lives. Together, we will rebuild.” Those things must be restored immediately. The people who looked the other way while Antifa, the anarchists and Black Lives Matter rioted and burned Minneapolis to the ground should pay for it.

If the Minneapolis City Council wants to dismantle the Minneapolis Police Department, then taxpayers shouldn’t bail these DFL idiots out. If Jeremiah Ellison wants to support the BLM rioters, which he has, then DFL Minneapolis taxpayers should pay the price for electing such idiots. Peggy Flanagan, Walz’s Lt. Gov., jumped into the conversation:

“We are committed to helping our communities rebuild, but we can’t do this on our own,” said Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan. “While state, tribal, and local budgets are stretched thin by COVID-19, we need everyone to step up, including the federal government, to restore safety and critical infrastructure to our communities.”

What’s needed are leaders who aren’t activist appeasers or outright idiots. If Minneapolis insists on continually electing idiots like Sharon Sayles-Belton, R.T. Rybak, Betsy Hodges and Jacob Frey, there should be a penalty for such stupidity.

The principle is the same as California electing idiot after idiot as governor or state legislator. That’s their right but they shouldn’t expect a bailout for implementing their stupid policies. That’s their problem.

If people, in this case Minneapolis, don’t have to pay a price for their foolish decisions, there’s no incentive to stop making foolish decisions. I don’t want to pay for other people’s foolishness. Why should I get punished for others’ foolishness? The men who wrote the Constitution insisted on a concept called federalism. That way, each state was free to succeed or fail based on their policy decisions. They understood that they’d get hurt by sloppy decision making. People had the option to move to other states that were better run.

That competition gave governors the incentive to make smart decisions. If people don’t get disciplined, there’s no reason for them to start making better decisions. When the mob insists on making stupid decisions like this, they’re on their own:

They want stupidity without consequences. They want the idiot status quo without having to change or be challenged. That’s a nice wish but it ain’t happening if I have anything to say about it.

It’s predictable that Walz would ask for a federal bailout, especially after Senate Republicans said no to his demands. It’s time for Walz and Frey to face the music. It’s time that they paid a political price for their terrible decision-making. It’s time because they both deserve it.

I already stopped watching the NBA last fall when the NBA decided that siding with China was more important than standing with the free people of Hong Kong. LeBron James lectured us about how nuanced US foreign policy is, especially when he’s relying on opening Chinese markets to sell products with his name on them. It doesn’t matter to him that the athletic gear that bears his name is made in Chinese sweat shops with child labor. That nuance isn’t worthy of King James’ consideration.

Now, the NFL is jumping into bed with Black Lives Matter and other Marxists. The NY Post reports that “the league will have renditions of ‘Lift Every Voice And Sing,’ traditionally known as the Black national anthem, played before ‘The Star-Spangled Banner’ as the NFL’s regular season gets underway. The NFL is also considering other ways to recognize the victims of police brutality during the upcoming season, which is slated to start on Sept. 10. Among those ideas is listing the names of victims on helmet decals or jersey patches, per ESPN.”

It isn’t that I hate recognizing “the victims of police brutality.” It’s that they’re ignoring the black-on-black crime that happens every weekend in Chicago. Those lives apparently don’t matter to the NFL. Further, the NFL is infamously leftist. DeMaurice Smith, the current leader of the NFLPA, was part of President Obama’s transition team in 2008. Joe Lockhart, a professional partisan hack for the Clinton administration, was also part of the NFL’s league office. When he was part of the Clinton administration, he was the WH Press Secretary.

The decision comes in the weeks after commissioner Roger Goodell admitted the league fumbled its handling of previous peaceful protesting done by players. The NFL has since committed $250 million to fight systemic racism over the next 10 years, and Goodell has urged teams to sign quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who has been unable to land a contract since he knelt during the national anthem to protest police brutality in 2016.

Tonight, I’ve talked with several friends. When I told them about this, these friends immediately said that they wouldn’t watch the NFL anymore. I then told them that I’d already made that decision. First, I wholeheartedly dispute the notion of systemic racism. That’s a quick dodge of personal responsibility. Check this stupidity out:

It’s time to start ignoring the NFL, too. If they’re hopping into bed with leftists and Marxists, which they are, they won’t get my business. The NFL is caving to the NFLPA to “recognize the victims of police brutality” but they aren’t doing anything to recognize the victims of black-on-black crimes? What’s up with that? That’s what people without principles do. That isn’t what mature men of integrity do.

I’m fairly certain that there’s more than me and my friends that think the same way out there. When people turn off their TVs in droves, I’ll be there to say I told you so. Finally, let’s finish with a little humor from Yogi Berra:

If people don’t want to come out to the ball park, nobody’s gonna stop ’em.

Amen, Yogi. For that matter, I won’t even watch them on TV.
