When President Trump criticized Democrat governors for not stopping riots in their states, some Democrats took offense. Gov. J.B. Pritzker whined the loudest, saying “I had to speak up, and I told him that his rhetoric is inflaming matters, that it’s making things worse, and that we need to call for police reform. We need to call for calm, that that’s what the president should do and we need national leadership in this regard.”

Then Gov. Pritzker sounded like a typical Democrat:

Pritzker also said that what Trump’s suggesting is “illegal.” “The governor of a state has to ask for federal help. I don’t know any governor that intends to do that,” he said. “And secondly, you know, you can hear in his rhetoric that he is simply trying to make himself sound like a strong man — almost like a dictator, as if he’s going to be responsible for bringing order all the way.”

Actually, Pritzker is a blithering idiot. Had he simply read Andy McCarthy’s article, he would’ve known better:

Under Article IV of the Constitution, the United States guarantees every state a republican form of government, protection against invasion, and — on request of the state government — protection from domestic violence. In furtherance of this provision, Congress enacted legislation, most notably the Insurrection Act of 1807, which empowers the president “to suppress, in any State, any insurrection, domestic violence, unlawful combination, or conspiracy.” Obviously, suppressing such attacks requires deploying the United States armed forces as needed.

Most conservative bloggers have been aware of Article IV of the Constitution and the Insurrection Act of 1807 for several days. It’s shameful that a Democrat governor isn’t constitutionally literate enough to know these things.

Pritzker said that “Trump is making things worse.” It’s true that President Trump is making life difficult for do-nothing Democrat governors who aren’t protecting their citizens. That’s a performance failure on Pritzker’s behalf. That isn’t a policy or messaging failure on President Trump’s behalf.

In Michigan, where police and protesters have skirmished in Grand Rapids despite many demonstrations remaining peaceful, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, a Democrat, called the president’s remarks “dangerous” and said they should be “gravely concerning to all Americans.”

The president’s comments, she said, “send a clear signal that this administration is determined to sow the seeds of hatred and division, which I fear will only lead to more violence and destruction.”

“We must reject this way of thinking. This is a moment that calls for empathy, humanity, and unity,” Whitmer said in a statement. “This is one of the most challenging periods in our nation’s history, but as Americans, we must remember our enemy is racial injustice, not one another.”

How can you be more hateful than Antifa and rioters? What type of blithering idiot would say something like that? A: A Democrat governor. Whitmer saying this time “calls for empathy, humanity, and unity” is another way of saying the moment requires turning the streets over to rioters, looters and anarchists. Ordinarily, I’d say that it’s difficult to picture a group of politicians being more stupid than Whitmer and Pritzker. Unfortunately, we have recent events from here in Minnesota that say this is par for the course for Democrats.

Across the nation, Democrats have let rioters run roughshod. In those states, their biggest cities are mostly smoldering ash heaps. Either that or they’re still burning buildings. Stores are looted, businesses are destroyed and people live in fear for their lives. That’s what acting with empathy, humanity and unity gets you.
